Herbal Classes and Workshops in Salt Lake City, Utah
Experiential herbal education along the Wasatch Front, rooted in clinical practice, plant relationship, and the rhythms of the natural world
If you are searching for herbal classes or herbal workshops in Salt Lake City, you may be looking for more than recipes or plant identification. You may want education that feels alive, that engages your senses as much as your mind, and that gives you a true and lasting relationship with the plants. That is the work I love most, and it is what my classes here in Salt Lake City and along the Wasatch Front are built around.
Whether you are new to herbal medicine or a longtime student looking to deepen your practice, these classes are designed to be substantive, accessible, and genuinely transformative.
A Different Way of Learning About Plants
Most herbal information online is fragmented. A list of herbs for sleep here, a recipe for a tincture there, a podcast about adaptogens somewhere else. It is easy to gather a lot of facts without ever truly learning herbal medicine.
My classes take a different approach. They are slow, experiential, and relational. We work with plants directly through smell, taste, touch, and quiet attention. We learn how to think herbally, not just what to memorize. And we build understanding that you can actually use, whether for your own household, your clinical training, or your spiritual practice.
This is herbal education in the older sense of the word, and it is taught in a way that fits modern lives in the Salt Lake Valley.

What an Herbal Class Actually Feels Like
If you have never taken a class with me, here is a sense of what to expect. We begin slowly. There is almost always tea, and often herbs to hold, smell, and taste while we talk. The space is grounded and unhurried, not lecture style or performative. We work in small groups, so questions are welcome and conversations go where they need to.
The content is substantive. You will leave with real knowledge, useful skills, and a few plants you now feel like you actually know rather than only know about. Many participants describe my classes as the first time they felt herbal medicine come alive for them, the first time it stopped feeling like a list of substances and started feeling like a living relationship with the green world.
That is the point. Information you can find anywhere. Relationship is what changes how you live.
Learning Through Relationship and Practice
A central feature of these workshops is relationship based learning. Depending on the class, this may include working closely with a small number of plant allies over time, guided sensory and mindfulness practices, reflection on how plants interact with the nervous system and our perception, and simple rituals that support memory and integration.
These elements are offered as educational tools rather than belief systems, and participation is always invitational. The goal is to give you direct experience of the plants, not to require any particular worldview.

Rooted in Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front
Salt Lake City offers a remarkable setting for herbal education, where the desert basin meets the canyons and foothills of the Wasatch. That meeting of ecologies, along with the rhythm of our seasons here, gives this region its own herbal character, and the classes reflect that.
Classes often incorporate seasonal awareness along the Wasatch Front, discussion of plants that grow locally and regionally, ecological responsibility and place based ethics, and a sense of how to live an herbal practice that is realistic for life in the Salt Lake Valley and across Utah. Whether you are coming from Sugar House, the Avenues, Holladay, Millcreek, Park City, or further afield, the learning is designed to travel home with you and live in your kitchen, your garden, and your daily life.
Grounded in Clinical Training and a Working Apothecary
These classes are taught from the perspective of an experienced clinical herbalist with advanced training and over a decade of private practice in Salt Lake City. That clinical foundation matters. It means the information is safety conscious, scope aware, and integrated with a real understanding of how plants work in real bodies. It also means the classes are held within an honest and ethical practice rather than offered casually.
Many classes also draw on the resources of the herbal apothecary at Flow Acupuncture and Apothecary, where I see private clients, which gives medicine making classes a depth of materials and tools that is uncommon in casual workshops.
How Classes and Workshops Are Structured
Formats vary by topic and season, and may include single session workshops of two to three hours, multi week class series for sustained study, half day or full day intensives for deeper material, and small group experiential learning. Each offering on the calendar clearly outlines its scope, any prerequisites, and what you will leave with. To see what is scheduled, visit the Upcoming Classes and Workshops calendar.
