  • "When I went to see Josh I was sleeping on average 3-4 hours a night. I am now sleeping 6-7 hours a night. My energy level was low, my mind was racing and now I feel calmer and my family has noticed it. I am also more productive and not going constantly. The herbs work and Josh has really helped me."

    -E.F., Herriman, Utah

The Healing Power of Nature

Herbal Medicine in Salt Lake City Utah

A man is giving a woman a small object while she smiles and reacts happily, standing in a cozy, warmly lit living room with plants and artwork.
  • Throughout the world there are many traditions and approaches to herbal medicine- working with the healing power and wisdom of plants for physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and life-path wellness.

Herbal medicine is a powerful and nuanced approach to connecting individual people to the plants, formulas, foods, and other natural elements that can help bring them back to their center of wellness and vibrancy.

  • Clinical herbalism is based on a combination of clinical data; usually modern and reductionist in nature. Traditional herbalism leans more on the herbal wisdom of our collective ancestors- approaches and stories that have worked for generations and have been protected for you and I to benefit from now.

I work with a combined approach of both clinical and traditional herbalism to give you the most updated access to herbal guidance while being fully rooted in our ancient herbal ways.

  • The short answer is yes!

Herbal medicine is curated and compounder for each individual person- it meets us where we are a whole people moving towards greater states of wellness in our whole lives. No matter who you are, what you are working on, where you are now, or what you’re working with, I can help connect you to the medicine and wisdom of the plants.

  • Sessions are client-centered and are based on whole-person explorations of who you are an individual, what issues you’re dealing with now (in any aspect of your life), and which specific herbs, formulas, and protocols can help support you in getting back to your center.

  • In my practice, herbs and foods go hand-in-hand. As we talk about therapeutic doses of herbal medicines we will also talk about plant-based foods that dovetail with the plant-based medicines of herbalism. A solid foundation of wellness combines mind, movement, and nourishment.

  • In expert care there is a ay to connect everyone to herbs. Part of my work for you will be in defining the right herbs for you as an individual- taking into account things like allergies, sensitivities, medications, physical and mental disabilities, affordability, ease of use, and more.

Your session is about you and will be tailored meet you where you are with your goals in focus at every step.

  • While every session is unique, there are a few things you can expect during your visit to our herbal clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah.

    • A warm welcome to our beautiful clinic and apothecary- check out our tea bar stocked with seasonal teas made right here in our clinic.

    • A comprehensive intake and exploration of you as a person- what your sacred center looks like, what’s not aligned right now, and where you’d like to be.

    • Traditional assessment tools that help us understand the root and language of any disharmonies you’re experiencing including pulse, tongue, and face assessment, applied kinesiology, and energetic testing.

    • Expert protocols that speak to the path back to your center.

    • Custom-written and compounded herbal formulations.

    • Guided mindfulness, plant connections, and heart-softening work to help receive the full spectrum of the herbs’ wisdom.

    • Supportive access to holistic nutritional guidance, movement, meditation, ritual, and suggested practitioners.

The ancient ways of herbalism are rooted in whole-person wellness meaning that we don’t just focus on suppressing symptoms but on getting to the root of disharmony as it shows up in each unique person.

The same language we use to explore patterns of imbalance and disharmony in herbal medicine can be applied to the other influences of our overall wellness: nourishment, movement, rest, stress, mindset, spiritual connection, and story. Each of these things plays a crucial role in how healthy we are and what we need to do to cultivate the greatest wellness on every level of being: physical, mental, emotional, energetic, spiritual, and narrative.

In my practice as a clinical herbalist in Salt Lake City, Utah, I center the unique experiences of my clients so that we can find the quiet patterns that connect us to wellness. From here, we can connect with the herbs, formulas, and protocols that best match the constitution and expression of each person.

Rather than suppressing symptoms, using herbs that are ‘good for’ a disease name, or treating every illness the same no matter who has it, herbalists craft formulas for each individual person and remedies that speak to who they are, where they are, and where they want to be.

Accepting New Clients Now

There are six essential pieces of an herbalism consultation- each of them builds upon the one before it. In our clinic, an excellent session begins with space. This is both the comfort and safety of our physical office but also the energetic space we hold to allow people to explore their herbalism.

That exploration centers each person’s unique story, experiences, thoughts, and beliefs about their situation. I take everything my clients say seriously and listen deeply to what they choose to share during our time together- it’s all valid and all has a place in the process.

The assessment is so much more than a standard diagnosis. Here, rather than assuming your experience is just like everyone else’s and lumping a set of symptoms under the name of a common disease state, we take time to look at how you are experiencing the situation and what the language of disease is communicating to you.

From there we get to begin talking about the individual herbs and custom formulas that are a good fit for you as a unique person. These formulas taking into consideration overall safety for you (including being mindful of any medications, treatments, or conditions you’re navigating) while focusing directly on who you are as a whole person.

The herbs come alive when we work them into simple, approachable, and effective daily practices and protocols- the paths that let the plants into your lives where they can bring their wisdom, magic, and medicine.

Finally, we use the same language of herbalism to look at things like foods (after all, food is medicine!), movement, mental atmosphere, stress and rest levels, spiritual connections, and personal stories and goals.

All of these steps come together in an organic and flowing way to offer grounded and powerful herbal guidance that’s tailored to each unique person.
