Herbal Medicine for
Stress, Anxiety, Worry, and Rest

Stress, anxiety, sleepless nights, and an overwhelmed mind are some of the most common struggles of modern life- and some of the most treatable through the ancient wisdom of plant medicine. For thousands of years, humans have turned to herbs to soothe frayed nerves, calm anxious minds, and restore the body's natural capacity for rest, resilience, and joy.

You Aren’t Broken… You’re Just Depleted

If you’re reading this, there is a good chance that you have been living with some version of the following:

  • a mind that won't stop racing

  • a body that can't seem to relax

  • sleep that doesn’t come easily and never feels restorative

  • emotions that feel unpredictable or misaligned to your inner nature

  • a persistent low hum of worry or dread that follows you through your days

  • focus on the negative or catastrophic- even when great things are happening

  • a sense of being disconnected or removed from your center

  • aches and pains you can’t explain

You may have tried to push through it, manage it, or ignore it; and you are exhausted from the effort.
What I want you to know is this: your nervous system is not malfunctioning. It is responding, often brilliantly, to the stresses, demands, and accumulated experiences of your life. But when that response goes on too long without adequate support, the body and mind begin to suffer in very real, very measurable ways. This is where herbal medicine, rooted in centuries of clinical wisdom and supported by modern research, offers something profound.

My practice centers on supporting the nervous system in all of its complexity: from the acute surge of a panic attack to the slow erosion of burnout, from the sleeplessness that steals your days to the depression that flattens your sense of self. I work with each person as the whole, unique human being they are, and together we build a botanical protocol that speaks directly to your nervous system, your patterns, and your healing path.

The conditions I most frequently work with in my clinical practice include the following. If you see yourself in any of them, please know that help is available- and that it comes from the earth.

Stress & Overwhelm · Anxiety · Panic Attacks · Depersonalization / Derealization · Insomnia & Sleep Disorders · Nervous System Burnout · Adrenal Fatigue & Exhaustion · Chronic Worry · OCD Patterns · Depression & Low Mood · Nervous System Dysregulation · Emotional Overwhelm · Chronic Pain

Understanding What You're Carrying

  • Stress & Chronic Overwhelm

Modern life generates a near-constant stream of stressors, and the body was simply not designed to remain in a heightened state indefinitely. Herbal adaptogens and nervines help shift the nervous system out of chronic activation, restoring flexibility and resilience so you can meet life's demands without being consumed by them.

  • Specific & Generalized Anxiety

Anxiety shows up differently for everyone: persistent worry, tightness in the chest, difficulty concentrating, or a vague but unshakeable sense of dread. Herbal medicine addresses anxiety at its root through nervine tonics, anxiolytic herbs, and adaptogens that gently recalibrate the stress response over time.

  • Panic Attacks

The sudden, overwhelming surge of a panic attack… racing heart, difficulty breathing, a sense of impending doom- is one of the most frightening experiences a person can have. Specific herbal formulas work acutely to interrupt the panic response while longer-term botanical support builds resilience in the autonomic nervous system to reduce frequency and severity over time.

  • Depersonalization / Derealization

Feeling disconnected from yourself, your body, or the world around you is a deeply disorienting experience that is more common than most people realize. DP/DR often arises as a nervous system protection response. Grounding herbs, nervous system tonics, and constitutional support work together to help the body and mind feel safe enough to return to full presence.

  • Insomnia & Sleep Disturbance

Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking unrefreshed are among the most common complaints I hear in clinical practice- and among the most transformative to resolve. Herbal medicine offers a sophisticated array of plants that support sleep onset, deepen sleep architecture, calm a racing mind, and address the underlying nervous system patterns that steal rest.

  • Nervous System Burnout

When the nervous system has been running on high alert for too long- sustained by stress, poor sleep, and inadequate recovery; the result is a distinctive kind of exhaustion that rest alone cannot fix. Nervine restoratives, deep adaptogens, and nutritive herbs work to rebuild the depleted tissue of the nervous system from the ground up, restoring capacity and vitality over time.

  • Fatigue & Adrenal Exhaustion

Deep, persistent fatigue that does not lift with sleep, difficulty recovering from exertion, and a feeling of being "wired but tired" are hallmarks of adrenal and nervous system exhaustion. Adaptogenic herbs are among nature's most powerful tools for restoring the HPA axis, improving energy regulation, and rebuilding genuine stamina without the crash of stimulants.

  • Chronic Worry & Rumination

The mind that loops- rehearsing past events, catastrophizing about the future, unable to step off the mental treadmill- is one that has lost access to its natural capacity for stillness. Specific nervine herbs combined with mindfulness practices and herbal ritual help quiet the default mode network and restore a sense of ease in the present moment.

  • OCD Patterns

Obsessive and compulsive patterns involve a nervous system locked in repetitive loops of anxiety and relief-seeking behavior. While herbal medicine is a complement to, not a replacement for, appropriate therapeutic support, specific botanical protocols can meaningfully reduce the underlying anxiety that fuels OCD patterns, support neurotransmitter balance, and create enough nervous system ease for deeper therapeutic work to take root.

  • Depression & Low Mood

Depression is not simply a chemical imbalance- it is a whole-person experience with roots in nervous system dysregulation, nutritional depletion, inflammatory processes, disrupted sleep, disconnection from community and nature, and unprocessed emotional experience. Herbal medicine offers a rich and nuanced toolkit for addressing depression holistically: lifting mood, restoring energy, supporting neurotransmitter production, and reconnecting a person to their own vitality and sense of meaning.

How Herbs Help

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Persistent, excessive worry about many different areas of life, accompanied by physical tension, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Herbal support focuses on adaptogenic and nervine tonic herbs that reduce cortisol reactivity and build HPA-axis resilience over time.

Panic Disorder

Recurrent, unexpected panic attacks and persistent fear of their return. Herbal protocols address both acute panic response with fast-acting nervines and long-term autonomic nervous system regulation to reduce the sensitivity of the threat-detection system.

Social Anxiety

Intense fear of social situations and scrutiny by others. Often rooted in a hyperactivated social threat detection system. Herbal support, combined with nutritional work around neurotransmitter support, helps ease the acute anxiety of social encounters while building underlying confidence.

PTSD & Trauma Response

A nervous system perpetually braced for threat, shaped by past experiences of overwhelm. Herbal medicine works gently to help the body move out of freeze and hypervigilance, supporting deeper rest, emotional processing, and the gradual expansion of a sense of safety. Always works best alongside appropriate trauma-informed therapeutic support.

Health Anxiety

Persistent fear about one's health and physical symptoms. Often involves a nervous system that has learned to interpret normal body sensations as threatening. A combination of nervine herbs, gut-brain axis support, and educational herbal consultations helps restore trust in the body's signals.

OCD & Intrusive Thoughts

Unwanted, repetitive thoughts and compulsive behaviors driven by anxiety. Herbal protocols focus on reducing baseline anxiety, supporting serotonin and GABA pathways, calming nervous system reactivity, and creating the inner spaciousness needed for therapeutic progress.

Stress is the Root of Most Disease

  • 75–90%

of all doctor's visits are stress-related, according to the American Institute of Stress

  • 6x

increased risk of heart attack, accident, and depression among people with high chronic stress

  • 40%

reduction in immune function linked to chronic psychological stress

  • 10+ yrs

of cellular aging accelerated by sustained high cortisol and chronic stress states

The Herbs in Action

Herbal medicine is the foundation of my practice- but it is never the whole picture. The ancient traditions of plant medicine always understood that true healing requires attention to every layer of the human being. Alongside custom botanical formulas, my sessions incorporate the following:

Nutritional Therapy

The nervous system is a nutritionally intensive organ system. Deficiencies in magnesium, B vitamins, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and amino acids like tryptophan and GABA precursors directly fuel anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. Targeted nutritional guidance is woven into every protocol.

Sleep Architecture Support

Beyond sleep herbs, I work with clients on circadian rhythm restoration, sleep hygiene practices, evening ritual design, and addressing the physiological root causes of disrupted sleep- including blood sugar regulation, cortisol timing, and nervous system wind-down protocols.

Herbal Ritual & Plant Connection

There is a dimension of herbal medicine that goes beyond pharmacology- the sacred, relational act of working consciously with plants as allies. Tea ceremonies, intentional preparation practices, and guided plant connection experiences deepen the healing relationship and activate the nervous system's natural relaxation response.

Spiritual Herbalism & Journeywork

For clients who wish to explore it, I offer facilitated herbal journeywork and spiritual herbalism practices that address the energetic and soul-level dimensions of anxiety, depression, and nervous system suffering. This is grounded, careful, and deeply rooted in traditional plant medicine lineages.

Mindful Movement Guidance

Gentle, somatic approaches to movement including breathwork, grounding practices, and body-based regulation techniques are some of the most powerful tools available for nervous system healing. I integrate specific movement and breath practices into client protocols as appropriate.

Life Story & Narrative Exploration

Our patterns of stress, anxiety, and depletion rarely exist in isolation from our stories. I create space in sessions to explore the life narrative- the accumulated experiences, beliefs, and patterns that shape how the nervous system learned to respond- and to envision a different, freer way of moving through the world.

What To Expect

Every person who comes to see me carries a unique constellation of symptoms, history, strengths, and needs. My intake and ongoing session process is designed to honor that complexity while providing clear, practical, personalized guidance from the very first appointment.

Comprehensive Initial Consultation

Your first session is a deep dive into your health history, current symptoms, sleep patterns, stress landscape, emotional patterns, diet, and life story. This is not a rushed intake- it is a real conversation. I want to understand not just what is happening in your body, but who you are and what healing looks like for you. You will leave with clarity, a personalized herbal strategy, and your first custom formula.

Custom Herbal Formula & Protocol

Every formula I create is compounded individually for each client using organic, high-quality herbs sourced from our vibrant apothecary. There are no generic blends here. Your formula will address your specific nervous system patterns; whether that means calming excess activation, rebuilding depleted reserves, lifting low mood, or supporting deeper sleep. I will also provide clear guidance on how and when to take your formula for best results.

Dietary & Lifestyle Recommendations

Your herbal protocol does not exist in isolation. I provide targeted nutritional guidance, sleep support practices, stress reduction techniques, and movement recommendations tailored to your unique constitution and needs. Small, sustainable changes in daily life amplify the work of the plants enormously.

Follow-Up & Ongoing Refinement

Healing is not linear, and the best herbal medicine is responsive. Follow-up sessions allow us to track your progress, refine your formula as needed, deepen the work, and move with you through each phase of your healing process. Most clients begin noticing meaningful shifts within two to four weeks, with deeper transformation unfolding over months of consistent care.

Long-Term Wellness Partnership

My goal is never to create dependency on any herb or any practitioner — it is to help you build such a deep relationship with your own body's wisdom and the healing gifts of plants that you feel empowered, educated, and equipped to support your nervous system for the rest of your life. Many of my clients continue to work with me seasonally, as part of an ongoing, living practice of plant-based self-care.
