Intro to Herbal Medicine Workshop in Salt Lake City
An Introduction to Herbalism: A Beginner-Friendly Workshop in Salt Lake City on October 10 for anyone who's been curious about herbal medicine and wants a warm, grounded place to begin their journey with the plants.
If you've been searching for herbalism classes near you, or looking for a place to genuinely begin your relationship with herbal medicine here in Salt Lake City, this post is for you. On Saturday, October 10, from 3 to 5 PM, I'll be hosting an Introduction to Herbalism Workshop at Flow Acupuncture and Apothecary in downtown Salt Lake City. It's a beginner-friendly, immersive gathering built specifically for people who've been drawn to the plants and are ready for a real, welcoming first step.
Herbal medicine can feel intimidating from the outside. There's so much information out there, so many opinions, so many products, and so many gatekeepers. The truth is, human beings have worked with plants for as long as we've been human, and the wisdom lives closer to us than most modern marketing wants us to believe. This workshop is an invitation into that closeness. Nothing fancy, nothing overwhelming, just a warm afternoon of exploration with the plants that have been ready to help us all along.
Let me tell you more about what to expect, why an introduction like this matters, and why the Wasatch Front is such a beautiful place to begin.
This isn't a lecture. It isn't a supplement pitch. It isn't a scripted presentation you sit through passively. It's a genuinely immersive afternoon designed to give you a felt, grounded experience of what herbal medicine really is.
We'll begin gently. There'll be tea already waiting when you arrive, warm and welcoming. The room will be set up for conversation and connection rather than classroom learning. Then over the two hours together, we'll move through several layers of exploration.
Discussion and teaching
I'll share the wisdom, magic, and medicine of our plant allies in a way that's accessible whether you've never touched an herb book or you've been reading about herbs for years. We'll talk about what herbalism actually is (and isn't), how the plants really work, and how you can begin to build your own relationship with them.
Handouts to take home
Each participant receives thoughtful printed materials designed to be genuinely useful references you'll come back to long after the workshop ends. Not throwaway sheets, but real content you can build on.
Make your own nervous system agave syrup
What’s herbal medicine without the medicine? As part of this workshop I’ll be introducing you to some of my favorite bioregional herbs that support a healthy and resilience nervous system to help protect us from the damaging effects of everyday stress and anxiety. You’ll get to craft your own agave syrup to take home and enjoy!
Guided experiences with the plants
We'll spend real time meeting specific plants together. Smelling them, tasting them, holding them, and learning what each one offers. This sensory engagement is where herbal medicine truly comes alive. Information you can find anywhere. Direct experience is what changes how you know the plants.
A special herbal medicine gift bag
Every attendee will leave with a small collection of herbal offerings crafted specifically for this workshop. Something to take home, something to try, something that continues the practice we begin together.
The whole atmosphere is designed to feel like being welcomed into a friend's kitchen for tea and conversation, not attending a class. That warmth is intentional. It's how herbal medicine has been passed down for thousands of years, and it's how I most love to share it.
Why an Intro Classes Are Awesome…
If you're new to herbalism, or if you've dabbled with a few teas or tinctures but never felt like you really got what herbal medicine's about, an introduction workshop matters more than you might realize. Here's why.
Most of what's available in the wellness marketplace is designed to sell you products, not to build a relationship with the plants. You end up with a shelf of half-used tinctures and no real understanding of what you're doing or why. This is a common experience, and it's not your fault. The current herbal marketplace treats the plants like commodities. But the plants themselves aren't commodities. They're living beings with wisdom, character, and specific gifts to offer, and building an actual relationship with them changes everything about how herbal medicine works for you.
An introduction workshop gives you what solo research and product-buying can't. A felt sense of what it means to actually work with plants. A framework for understanding how herbalism thinks about health and healing. A grounded starting point that makes everything you read or explore afterward more meaningful. And, quietly, permission. Permission to trust your own experience. Permission to slow down. Permission to let a plant become a friend rather than a purchase.
For anyone who's felt curious about herbal medicine but overwhelmed by where to begin, this workshop is your invitation. You don't need any prior knowledge. You don't need to buy anything ahead of time. You just need to show up with your curiosity and let the plants do the rest.

Who This Workshop Is For
This gathering is beginner-friendly in the truest sense. If you're wondering whether it's a good fit for you, here are the kinds of people who'll feel right at home.
People who've been curious about herbal medicine but never had a proper introduction. Maybe you've read a few articles. Maybe you've bought a bottle or two at the health food store. Maybe you've been intrigued but didn't know where to start. This is where.
People navigating stress, anxiety, or fatigue who are looking for natural, gentle support alongside whatever else they're already doing. Herbal medicine has a beautiful role to play in nervous system care, and this workshop will introduce you to that dimension of the work.
People drawn to the traditional and spiritual dimensions of plant medicine. Herbalism isn't just biochemistry. It's an old practice of relationship, wisdom, and connection to the living world. If that resonates, you'll feel met here.
People new to Salt Lake City who are looking for a wellness community that feels grounded rather than trendy. The plants have been offering their support here in Utah long before any of us arrived. This is a warm way to plug in.
People who've been considering working with a clinical herbalist but want to understand the landscape a bit first. A workshop like this is a low-pressure way to get a felt sense of my approach before deciding whether personalized care might be right for you.
People who simply want to slow down for two hours on a Saturday afternoon in October, with tea, plants, and thoughtful conversation. That's honestly reason enough.
No prior experience is needed. No supplies to bring. You just need to show up ready to explore and experience!
Herbalism Classes in Salt Lake City: A Different Kind of Learning
When you search for herbalism classes in Salt Lake City or herbalism classes near you, you'll find a small but growing landscape of offerings. Retail apothecaries offering product-focused classes. Online programs teaching herbalism from far away. Weekend intensives that promise quick certification.
The workshops I offer here at Flow Acupuncture and Apothecary sit in a slightly different place. They're grounded in over a decade of clinical practice and more than 25 years of study, so the depth of what I share reflects real experience with real clients over real time. They're small enough to feel genuinely personal. They're held in a beautiful downtown Salt Lake City space that already carries the presence of good work being done. And they're designed to be part of an ongoing relationship rather than one-off events.
If you attend this introduction and something in it resonates, there's more available. Follow-up workshops throughout the year cover specific topics in more depth. Personalized clinical consultations offer the deeper work of building a custom herbal plan for your specific body and life. Ongoing classes, sound events, seasonal gatherings, and more are woven through the year to support anyone who wants to grow into a real relationship with the plants.
The introduction workshop on October 10 is the doorway. What comes after is up to you.

Why Salt Lake City Is Such a Beautiful Place to Study Herbalism
There's something particular about learning herbal medicine here in Salt Lake City and along the Wasatch Front. The landscape itself is a teacher. High mountain ecology alongside desert basin. Dramatic seasons that make the wheel of the year vivid. Extraordinary access to canyons, foothills, and quiet green spaces where plants grow abundantly if you know where to look.
Living in this landscape offers a rare opportunity to learn herbalism in a place where the plants are close at hand. What you learn in a workshop doesn't stay abstract. You can walk out into Millcreek Canyon or Emigration Canyon or the foothills above the Avenues and see many of the plants we discuss growing right there. Your local ecosystem becomes a living reference for the medicine you're learning.
This is also a community that's ready. Salt Lake City is home to a growing number of people who are done with fast-fix wellness marketing and hungry for something more grounded, more traditional, and more real. Whether you're in Sugar House, the Avenues, Millcreek, Holladay, Park City, or anywhere along the Wasatch Front, there's a real community of people here who care about this work. This workshop is one of many places where that community gathers.
If you're feeling drawn to attend, don't wait too long to reserve your spot. Space is limited to keep the workshop intimate. Registration is available on the Flow Acupuncture and Apothecary website, and the link is included below.
